Gabby Tripodi

Nickname: Gabby or Gab

What's your story? Growing up I was always active. I started dancing at the age of 6 and competed nationally for 11 years. If I wasn’t at the dance studio, I was at home creating my own dances or working on my flexibility and tricks. Fresh out of high school in 2010, my mind spun as I was constantly asked the question, “What do you plan on doing with your life?” I enrolled into Nassau Community College with the hope of figuring it all out. During my college years I found myself longing to escape into nature. Going on strenuous hikes alone or with friends, diving into the ocean, or getting lost up in a tree somewhere. I needed to be lost in order to be found.
Yoga teaches you to appreciate and search through the darkness to find the light. After a humbling, tough 2 years in my 20s there was a shift, as if I had woken up from a deep sleep. This was when I found yoga. My practice started in my parent’s home, behind closed doors. At that time I suffered from a low-self esteem and was always worried about what others would think. When I was ready to take the next step, I took my first class, a Bikram class. It had that competition vibe which resonated with me at that time. I left class feeling beaten up. Ready to grow mentally, spiritually and physically from the dirt below, just like a lotus flower, emerging from the bottom of a muddy, murky pool. After a couple of years, I had stopped taking Bikram classes to save money.  I continued to practice on my own until one day I had the desire to take my practice to the next level. A quick online search of where to embark on this new journey brought me to Revolution Yoga. Without stepping foot into the space, I sent over my deposit to enroll in the 200-hour teacher training (talk about trust.) I could not deny how right it felt. I was ready to see where my path was taking me next. It was now time to spread love and shed light by loving myself first.
Yoga continues to teach me to dig deep, close my eyes, take that leap and trust the universe. I will never find out what I was “supposed” to do, the search is over. If we are always searching and planning for the future, we miss out on the present moment! I am here to love, blossom and serve. We never know where our path will take

What are your greatest passions in life? Anything art related feeds my soul. Dance, nature photography, music, drawing, singing, or traveling- I could get lost in them for days. I hope to inspire others to keep in touch with what flows naturally through them. It is easy to neglect your greatest passions beneath the pressures of society, but never too late to make a change.

How do you plan on changing the world? I strongly believe to change the world one must turn inward first. We are all part of the whole; therefore one single person can make a huge difference! Having a daily meditation practice helps keep me grounded and in the here and now. Turning to an Eckhart Tolle or Ram Dass book in times of doubt helps to restore some faith. My plan is to use and spread the teachings of yoga to the best of my ability, casting a ripple effect full of love, happiness and harmony.
